LastPass for Applications

Monday, 18. January 2010 17:49

Very small announcement – just to let you know, my favorite password manager LastPass just released closed beta version that supports not only web pages, but also applications!

Very, very cool – I am betatesting at this moment and will let you know once it is released publicly. This was the only major feature I was still waiting for.

Silverlight version of Bing Maps (Beta)

Thursday, 3. December 2009 11:44

My relation with Bing Maps was always love\hate. I love it because they are VERY good at experiments and brining new ideas – when I was watching i closely, I could see that new Google Maps features were introduced at Bing Maps\Live Maps few months before ;)

I hate it because they never finish what they started. And even thought they got great ideas, their maps are (at least in Europe) far from Google quality. However that’s different story :)

I wanted to share with you latest experiment by Bing Maps – silverlight based version of Bing Maps:

If you will feel that you don’t see many new features, click on following button:

Use map apps

I was very surprised when I saw how many Photosynth examples are around me (event in my building :) ). Also notice that you can see Twitter Maps – very nice idea :)

Office 2010 Click-To-Run Beta

Thursday, 26. November 2009 12:21

Maybe you already heard about application virtualization (I hope so). For me personally, biggest problem in this industry is that vendors don’t use it’s full potential.

Just think of it – what would happen if VMWare (after acquisition of Thinstall) would release ThinApp completely for free and just sell management tools for enterprises? My guess – within one or two years, most applications won’t be distributed using InstallShield or MSI, however as single executables created by ThinApp. Well, didn’t happen :( For me, this was one of biggest opportunities of VMWare, but they simply missed it.

Ok, second biggest player? Microsoft… They got App-V for years, however it’s strictly business technology. Why Windows 7 (or even Vista) doesn’t have built-in client, I got no idea.

Well, situation is changing finally (I hope). Microsoft announced new distribution channel for Office 2010 called Click-To-Run. It is fully streamed Office 2010. I really love this idea and especially for BETA product, because then they can easily update it and you won’t need to uninstall\install it again.

Anyway, here is the link to try it yourself:

Don’t forget to mention your experiences and ideas in comments!
